Death Certificate Translation Services

Some tasks carry a quiet gravity. In our office, we know that a death certificate is profoundly different from other translations — it’s personal. That’s why every line we translate is double- and triple-checked, because we’d rather take longer than ever risk being wrong. Families turn to us knowing we’ll always do our best for them when it matters most.

Translate Death Certificates to English

We provide death certificate translations into English that are accurate, reliable, and officially recognised by HM Courts & Tribunals Service, the Probate Registry, HM Land Registry, banks, and insurance companies.

Certified Translation of Death Certificates

When a death certificate is written in another language, it must be translated into English before it can be used in the UK. This translation has to be certified, meaning it is signed and stamped by a qualified translator. The certified translation should also be accompanied by a Certificate of Translation Accuracy.

Families and executors often need a translated death certificate for practical and legal matters. Some of the most common situations are:

  • Applying for probate or administering an estate in the UK
  • Transferring property or distributing inherited assets
  • Closing bank accounts or releasing funds held abroad
  • Claiming life insurance policies or accessing survivor benefits
  • Updating registrars, notifying tax authorities, or submitting court filings
  • Arranging funeral services, cremations, or repatriation in another country

Death Certificate Translation for Probate

Probate is the legal process that confirms who has the authority to manage a deceased person’s estate. When applying for probate in the UK, you must provide a death certificate, and if it is not in English, a translation is required.

If the translation is carried out by an independent translator, they must complete Form PA19. By signing this form, the translator confirms that the translation:

  • is accurate to the best of their knowledge
  • will be stored as a public record
  • may lead to legal action if the information is found to be deliberately untruthful

If the translation is provided by a licensed translation company, Form PA19 is not required. Instead, the company will issue its own certificate of translation accuracy.
