Official Translation of Birth Certificates

We offer four types of official translation for birth certificates: certified, notarised, apostilled, and sworn. If you're not sure which type of certification you need, don't worry—our friendly team will talk you through the options so you can move forward with confidence.

Certified Translation of Birth Certificates

Certified translation of birth certificates is our most popular service, and we translate thousands of them every year. They’re most often needed for UK immigration, visa, and passport applications.

Each of our certified translations includes a Certificate of Translation Accuracy, featuring the translator’s signature, stamp, contact details, and qualifications. This certification is recognised and accepted by authorities in the UK, including HM Passport Office and UK Visas and Immigration.

We often hear from clients who’ve been told they need a notarised translation. However, that’s usually only required when documents are being submitted overseas. For anything UK-based, a certified translation is perfectly acceptable to the UK government.

Birth Certificate Translations Accepted by UKVI, HMPO, Registrars, and Embassies

From UK visas to overseas citizenship, birth certificate translations are a common requirement — but the rules vary by authority and country. We specialise in getting them right. We’ve translated thousands of birth certificates for official use, and we guarantee yours will be accepted wherever it’s needed.

In fact, we’ve never had a rejection from the following authorities:

  • UK Visas and Immigration (UKVI) – for visa and immigration applications
  • HM Passport Office (HMPO) – for passport applications and renewals
  • Local Registrars – for birth and marriage registration and civil partnerships
  • Embassies and Consulates – for citizenship, passport, and residency abroad

Birth Certificate Translation for UKVI Applications

If you're applying for a UK visa, Indefinite Leave to Remain (ILR), or British citizenship, and your birth certificate isn’t in English or Welsh, you’ll need a certified translation before submitting your application.

It’s typically required in situations like:

  • Applying for a spouse, student, or work visa
  • Including birth certificates for dependent children
  • Proving family relationships for settlement or citizenship

UKVI (UK Visas and Immigration) has clear rules for birth certificate translations: they must be certified by a professional translator. Translations completed by a friend or relative won’t be accepted. The translation must also be true and accurate to the original, including all visible elements such as stamps, seals, handwritten notes, and marginal annotations.

Once your translation meets these requirements, it’s ready to be submitted. If you're applying from inside the UK, you’ll usually upload your documents through UKVCAS (UK Visa and Citizenship Application Services). If you're applying from outside the UK, you’ll submit them via your local Visa Application Centre.
